MOUNTAIN PANORAMA, INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL HERITAGE CONFERENCE
MOUNTAIN PANORAMA – ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED
We want to inform you that the abstract submission deadline has been extended to 10th April 2022.
We are also pleased to inform you that the conference will start in the evening of 9 June with the debate entitled: MUSEUMS IN MOUNTAINOUS REGIONS mission and future: from tradition to innovation, new museum dimensions and new perspectives.
A detailed programme of the conference will be presented in the beginning of May.
Within the Framework of the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development 2022, we are pleased to announce that the Tatra Museum in Zakopane, Poland, in association with the Mountain Partnership and the International Mountain Museums Alliance, are organizing the international conference “Mountain Panorama – International Cultural Heritage Conference”, to be held in Zakopane on 9-12 June 2022.
The conference will be curated by Aldo Audisio, International Projects Expert; Rosalaura Romeo, Mountain Partnership Secretariat ; and Anna Wende-Surmiak, Director, Tatra Museum.
The scientific board includes:
• Prof. Dorota Folga-Januszewska (Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw)
• Prof. Jan Święch (Jagellonian University)
• Dr. Giovanni Kezich (Trentino Ethnographic Museums Network)
• Dr. Bernard Germain (Montagne&Alpiniste Magazine)
Mountains play an essential role in all areas of life on Earth – from hosting important biodiversity to being the home of rich traditions and cultures. They constitute a separate ‘world’ to be valued, conserved and promoted. Mountains are the home of countless plant and animal species as well as over a billion people globally. Because of this, mountains hold significant cultural value for the heritage of local communities. The aim of this conference is to discuss the revaluation and conservation of this immense tangible and intangible heritage, to provide a true panorama of mountain areas.

Side events: Permanent and temporary exhibitions at the Tatra Museum; a concert featuring Trebunie-Tutki from Zakopane and Quintet Urmuli from Georgia; and a guided tour to the Tatra Mountains

CALL FOR PAPERS
Deadline: 10 April 2022
We encourage you to participate in the conference and to submit original research. This call for papers seeks submissions related to the following conference topics:
• Collections and museum activity in mountain areas (e.g. collections, exhibitions, artistic creations)
• Cultural heritage of mountain populations (tangible and intangible: culture of communities living across mountains areas, languages, rituals)
• Activities in mountain areas: prevention and memory (e.g. organizations, Alpine clubs and alliances, traditional and alternative forms of tourism)

The conference is under the patronage of Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations Organizations in Rome. The project was introduced on 9 December 2021 on the occasion of International Mountain Day at the Polish Institute in Rome.
